Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatique & Thyroid
Solutions
Several years ago after many months of
frustrating research I was diagnosed with
Fibromyalgia.
What a pain...literally! Once I finally
had a name for what was going on, I went
on a crusade to find out
all I could.
The more I understood, the
better I would be able to adjust to
new limits, pain issues, and the
emotional fallout that I was facing. Below
are organizations, companies, online groups,
books and magazines that I personally belong
to/have/use.... and I
don't consider any of it redundant when
we're talking about my (your) health!
I
discovered (the hard way of course) about
the correlation between Fibro, Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome, and Hypothyroidism. The
book by Dr. Arem is the most amazing, thorough,
and informative I've found. I'm not just
getting smarter on my health, I'm getting
better!
NEW! "Living
With Fibromyalgia - a Journey of Hope
and Understanding".
The result of over two years of interviews
and research, Living With Fibromyalgia is
the film they wish their family could have
watched together when they first heard the
word "fibromyalgia." 10%

Did
You Know?
Fibromyalgia
Syndrome (FMS) describes
a complex clinical disorder characterized
by symptoms of chronic widespread
soft tissue pain, stiffness, insomnia,
and an altered deep pain threshold.
It affects more females
than males, with a ratio of 9:1 by American
College of Rheumatology. Fibromyalgia
is seen in 3% to
6% of the general population,
and is most commonly diagnosed in individuals
between the ages of 20 and 50.
The nature
of fibromyalgia is not well
understood, with many physicians accusing
their patients of feigning illness.
There are few, if any,
treatments available, and there is no
cure, but the disease is not life-threatening.
The term fibromyalgia
was coined in 1976 to more accurately
describe the symptoms. From the Latin:
• Fibro - meaning
fiber
• Myo -
meaning
muscle
•
Greek Algos
-
meaning
pain

Fibromyalgia can affect
every aspect of a person's life. FMS
can severely curtail social activity
and recreation, and as many as 30% diagnosed
with fibromyalgia are
unable to maintain full-time employment.
As with other disabilities,
individuals with FMS often need accommodations to
fully participate in their education
or remain active in their careers.
